Online Polling Tools

Another way to get people to interact with your site is to present a poll. If you pick questions that are phrased provocatively and serve a useful purpose, you can obtain data that is interesting to both the poll-taker, media outlets, etc.
  • Alxnet Poll - Free service; you can use provided HTML code or link to the site to set up a simple poll with up to 20 answers per question.
  • AppForce - Unlimited surveys and responses for a flat $49.95/month fee; free trial.
  • Envisterra Digital - Free, but runs banner ads on your polls. Polls feature one question with up to 120 answers. You can protect against multiple voting and set closing dates for polls. Respondents can also add comments.
  • EZPolls from MyComputer.com - Helps you write question and answer choices; can require visitors to choose one answer or allow for multiple answers. Free if display their logo on your poll; $19.95/month or $200/year otherwise.
  • Infopoll - Free; you can design a questionnaire, forecast survey results before distributing them, deploy survey forms anywhere and obtain real-time analysis simply by clicking a button.
  • Informative - Costs $2-$5 per completed response; Informative's SurveyBuilder.com is a market leader, creating and hosting surveys on its own site. It also handles design, data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • InsightExpress - Average survey costs $1,000; InsightExpress Survey is a Web-based market-research delivery system. To make your sample representative, you can choose from among 25 demographic groups.
  • MisterPoll - Creates basic polls, which can run on your site or theirs, providing simple results. They will list your poll in its poll directory. Free, but you must display their logo on your poll.
  • Online Environs, Inc. - One of many Web design firms that do online polls. Unlike the other sites, you cannot create a free poll with Online Environs, but they can include the ability to cross-tabulate results (e.g., what percentage of people who answered w to question x also answered y to question z, if you need that level of sophistication.
  • Pollcat (formerly Interscore) - Free for basic survey publishing, limited to a single Web page. Provides periodic response tallies via email, and instant access to results over the Web. Costs $95 for private label version, plus $49.99 for Microsoft Access- or XML-compatible versions.
  • QuickTake - They conduct custom surveys on behalf of customers; it also sells research from studies it performs on its site. Pricing averages $1,000 per 250 respondents.
  • Site Survey - You can compose questions, ask up to four demographic questions and present questions instantly over the Web, via email or by posting to a site. Maximum of 2,000 responses per poll. Costs $40 for first 500 responses; $25 per additional 500.
  • Sparklit (formerly PollIt) - Can ask one question, with up to 25 answers. Can customize background and text colors to match your site. Polls can be shown on your page or in a pop-up window. Free with ads inserted; $4/month plus $6 setup fee per poll without banners.
  • Survey Monkey - Powerful and flexible. For basic subscribers (free), you are limited to 100 responses per survey. Professional subscriptions ($19.95/month) let you collect up to 1,000 responses per month and give unlimited access to every feature.
  • Web Surveyor - As low as $449 for a 3-month survey. Pricier than most others on this page, but good functionality.
  • Zoomerang (a/k/a MarketTools) - Another easy, free (but you must display Zoomerange's logo) polling creator, with additional functionality of exporting/importing a list of email addresses of actual/desired poll-takers, responses are gathered in real time and displayed in various graphical formats, the ability to present a customized welcome message upon arrival.
