BIOGRAPHY for Glenn Gutmacher After 3 years training and managing an 8-person diversity sourcing team focused on North America at State Street, one of the world's largest custody banks with over $36 trillion in assets under management or administration, headquartered in Boston, he was asked to strategize and implement a global central sourcing function for the company's experienced level talent needs, based primarily out of India. After rolling that out, he has added recruitment marketing and automation projects to his mandate. Glenn also serves as volunteer head of the Boston Area Talent Sourcing Association which he co-founded in 2014. From September 2010 to September 2015, Glenn developed innovative sourcing strategies, methods and tools while at Avanade, a $3 billion IT consulting firm and most-awarded Microsoft Gold partner, jointly owned by Accenture and Microsoft since 2000. Though primarily leading and training an online-focused offshore team (China) and a junior calling-focused team (USA) supporting front-end candidate pipelining for North America Recruiting, he also guided some global recruiting training and sourcing initiatives. For the two previous years, he served as Vice President of JobMachine / Arbita Consulting & Education Services (ACES) division of Arbita, consulting recruiting teams of corporations and recruiting firms of varied sizes and industries, including delivering workforce development workshops, seminars and webinars on sourcing-related topics to improve candidate pipelining, productivity, tools, systems, and organizational structure. In October, 1996, Glenn was the first Interactive Product Manager hired by Community Newspaper Company, the publisher of over 100 newspapers throughout Eastern Massachusetts, including the TAB and MetroWest Daily News. He launched JobSmart, CNC's recruitment Web site in October, 1996, later renamed Town Online Working, managing it through March 2000 in terms of strategy, marketing, content and sales training. The state-of-the-art use of content and interactive functionalities earned Town Online Working the two most prestigious awards in the international newspaper industry in 1998: the EPpy Award (Editor & Publisher) and the Digital Edge Award (Newspaper Assn. of America). In the process, Glenn realized there was a great need among employers and recruiters to understand the Internet and how it related to recruiting. He took the initiative to develop an interactive seminar in 1997, which has evolved into today's full-day seminar and Web version of the course. Hundreds of companies have had their recruiters take this course in at least one of its formats since then. He is also known for his popular "Beyond Job Boards" presentations to job-seekers to tap the hidden employment market and for teaching innovative methods around social networking, employer brand and personal brand enhancement activities. Glenn was named the official Internet recruiting certification instructor in 2000 for the Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA), the leading New England chapter of the world's largest HR organization, SHRM. Glenn was also named official Internet recruiting certification instructor in 2001 for the Boston Herald's Jobfind.com and in 2002 for the Boston Globe's BostonWorks. Also for Community Newspaper Company, Glenn developed the other revenue-generating Web sites Town Online Introductions, Town Online Parent and Baby, Town Online Real Estate and Town Online Newcomers Guide, as well as launching the next-generation classifieds solution for CNC, called CommunityClassifieds.com (since folded into the Boston Herald's Jobfind.com), all sites which he continued to co-manage until leaving CNC in March 2000. After CNC, while continuing to build the Recruiting-Online.com seminar/training business (concurrently taught on contract by Jobfind.com to classes hosted/promoted by the Boston Herald from 2000-2001), Glenn joined the Boston-based Internet startup VillageGenie as employee #2, serving as VP/Content and Business Development to help develop its innovative online career service. It was sold in December 2000 to leading outplacement firm Lee Hecht Harrison (a division of Adecco) and incorporated, with many of Glenn's features intact, into their ExecuPlanet service. From November 2000 to April 2002, Glenn served as project manager and head of Internet recruiting for ReadyAbout Interactive, an interactive development firm in Boston, where he got to put into action some of the innovative employment branding techniques he espouses, as well as learn quite a bit about back-end and front-end web development. Following that, Glenn worked on web development and pioneered e-marketing programs for MyJewishLearning.com. From summer 2003 until September 2008, Glenn focused heavily on sourcing in the corporate recruiting space. He spent two years at Getronics North America as lead sourcer, corporate career site webmaster (including developer and maintainer of its design, functionality and content) and Internet recruiting trainer for Getronics US Recruiting Operations. He helped expand the department's role to handle an increasing number of executive searches for its European headquarters and Canadian operations. The in-house executive search and technology innovations earned Getronics two finalist nominations in the Electronic Recruiting Exchange's 2005 ER Excellence Awards. Building on Recruiting-Online.com and those successes, Glenn was invited by sourcing guru Shally Steckerl in summer 2005 to join as a recruiting researcher for a ground-breaking project on Microsoft's Technical Central Sourcing Team. Glenn was the senior researcher for the Global Central Sourcing Team, focusing on competitive intelligence and proactive international sourcing, until he left to join JobMachine / Arbita in September 2008. As a result of his Internet experience and uncanny ability to convey complex topics in layman-understandable terms, Glenn has also developed and presented other well-received Internet courses for CNC and adult continuing education programs in Eastern Massachusetts. These include Demistifying the Internet, Finding Any Job Through the Internet, and Promoting Your Business Online. He has been invited to speak at many recruiting industry events up through present day and has written many articles on Internet recruiting and sourcing for trade publications and recruiting portal websites. His first exposure to the Web occurred at Collegiate Advantage (now a division of Student Advantage), a national advertising and promotions agency that helps major marketers target the 18-24 year-old demographic, where he handled the firm's first Web site client. He was also corporate communications manager there for two years, and coordinated college radio and campus television promotions for such companies as Sprint, Citibank, Musicland/Sam Goody, NBC-TV and Fox Broadcasting. From 1991 through 1993, Glenn was Executive Director/CEO of the National Association of College Broadcasters (NACB), America's trade organization for college radio and TV stations. While there, he created the first national college radio and TV station awards program, and served as the association's primary fundraiser, developing relationships with many major media conglomerates. He also coordinated U Network, the world's first student-produced satellite TV programming service. Before that, Glenn was Publications Director of NACB, serving as editor-in-chief of the flagship College Broadcaster trade magazine. On a related note, Glenn was retained as a consultant in late 1999 by some of NACB's founders to help launch Nibblebox, an innovative radio/TV programming service combining collegiate and professional talent, which has evolved into Hypnotic today. Glenn first got serious about media while a student at Yale University (B.A. cum laude, 1987), where at various times he was Sales Manager, Promotions Director, Format Programmer and a DJ at the campus' commercial station, WYBC-FM, voted top college station of the year by SPIN magazine at the end of his tenure. He served on the station's advisory Board of Governors from 1991-97. Between college graduation and NACB, Glenn worked for Home Box Office (HBO) in New York and Chicago, and then travelled the nation doing grant-supported research on a forthcoming book about the history of college radio in America. When not online, Glenn likes to play golf, listen to music, read, garden and cook, among other relatively low-risk activities. He lives south of Boston with his wife and their three young sons.
